There are high expectations for rookie Victor Oladipo

By: Travis Thayer (@TheTravisThayer)

2012-13 Record: 20-62

Projected 2013-14 Finish: 4th in the Atlantic Division

Projected Staring Lineup

Jameer Nelson, PG
Aaron Affalo, SG
Tobias Harris, SF
Glen Davis, PF
Nikola Vucevic, C

Key Reserves

Victor Oladipo, G
Mo Harkless, F

Strengths

Rebounding might be the best thing that this Magic team does.  Center Nikola Vucevic is one of the most talented rebounders in the league, which allows him to get a lot of garbage buckets to offset his lack of offensive ability.  The Magic are also a good defensive team that has the necessary athletes to matchup with better teams.  The addition of Victor Oladipo should increase that defensive prowess, and if they can find some consistent scoring – the Magic could improve upon the worst record in the league last season.

Weaknesses

Who will handle the ball if Jameer Nelson struggles through injuries again in 2013?  The Magic are lacking a playmaker in the backcourt who can make his teammates better.  Victor Oladipo tried to play point guard during Summer League, but he really struggled holding onto the ball at times.  The lack of ball-handling and depth is a major concern for the Magic.  When you can’t score and you can’t handle the ball, you won’t win many games.

Outcome

The outcome is very simple for the Orlando Magic.  The roster that they have put together isn’t a roster that is capable of winning more than 25 games.  The Magic are obviously rebuilding after dealing away Dwight Howard last year, and that rebuilding process is going to take a few years.  Oladipo should play well as a rookie and give Magic fans some hope.  Speaking of hope, Magic fans should hope for the number one pick in next year’s draft.  The prize, Andrew Wiggins.
